SEPTIC APPROVALS

Septic System Permit: Who needs one and how do you get it?

If you are planning on building a home on an unserviced lot, your first step is getting a septic system permit. The septic permit is necessary to get your building permit.

Here are the steps...

  • Contact a "Qualified Person" at Terra Firma Consultants.

  • The "Qualified Person" will visit your lot and discuss your new home location.

  • Separation distances and other environmental regulations will be addressed.

  • A strategically excavated test pit on your lot will be assessed for soil conditions.

  • An appropriate septic system type will then be designed or selected.

  • The "Qualified Person" from Terra Firma will monitor the septic system installation and issue the final certificate when the system is properly installed.

  • Terra Firma is there for you from start to finish regarding your septic system.

After Terra Firma assesses your lot, this specific information, including the recommended septic system design/selection, will be sent to the Department of Environment for their approval. Usually, within 7 to 10 days, the Department will return the approval with a permit number. This number is necessary to get your building permit.

You are well on your way at this point!
